1. About these Terms

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern access to and use of lifelinesrilanka.org and the online features operated by Lifeline Association (“Lifeline”, “we”, “us” or “our”). By using the website, you agree to use it in accordance with these Terms and applicable law.

If you do not agree with these Terms, please do not use the website.

2. Using the website

You may use the website for lawful purposes. You must not:

• Use the website to break the law, infringe another person’s rights, or facilitate harmful activity.
• Upload, transmit or introduce malicious code, malware or other material intended to disrupt or compromise the website or its users.
• Impersonate Lifeline, its officers, staff, volunteers or another person.
• Submit knowingly false, fraudulent or misleading enquiries, donation information, volunteer applications or job applications.
• Conduct abusive automated scraping, harvesting or other activity that materially interferes with the website or our systems.
• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to accounts, systems, data or infrastructure connected to the website.

3. Donations and bank transfers

The current donation process uses direct bank transfer. You complete the transfer through your own bank or banking application using Lifeline's published bank details. Your banking credentials are not entered into this website.

• Check the beneficiary name, account details and payment amount carefully before confirming a transfer.
• Use the requested project or donation reference where one is provided.
• Keep your bank receipt or transfer confirmation in case you need to contact us about the payment.
• Contact Lifeline promptly if you believe you used an incorrect reference, duplicated a transfer, or sent funds in error.

4. Refunds and mistaken donations

Donations are generally intended to be charitable gifts. If you believe a transfer was duplicated, unauthorised or made in error, contact us promptly with the relevant payment details. We will review the circumstances individually.

Any refund is subject to applicable law, banking rules, the evidence available to us and whether the funds have already been committed or applied to the charitable purpose for which they were received. Nothing in these Terms limits rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.

5. Restricted donations and project allocation

Where a donation is made with a clearly identified project or programme reference, Lifeline will aim to apply it consistently with that stated purpose. If circumstances materially change or a project can no longer receive or use funds as intended, Lifeline may contact the donor where practicable and will handle the funds in accordance with applicable law, donor restrictions and organisational governance requirements.

Marketing statements, project descriptions and allocation information on the website should be read together with the specific information published for the relevant project at the time of donation.

6. Receipts and tax

Lifeline may provide donation acknowledgements or receipt information where available. Tax treatment varies by jurisdiction and by the donor's circumstances. Nothing on this website is tax advice, and donors should obtain independent advice where tax deductibility matters to them.

7. Career and volunteer applications

Job, internship and volunteer opportunities may be amended, paused or closed as organisational needs change. Submitting an application does not guarantee an interview, placement, employment or volunteer appointment.

Application information is reviewed as part of Lifeline's selection process and is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

8. Intellectual property

Unless otherwise stated, the website's original text, graphics, logos, photographs, programme material, reports, interface design and other content are owned by Lifeline or used with permission and may be protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.

You may share links to public pages and quote brief excerpts for legitimate non-commercial, educational or journalistic use with appropriate attribution. Beneficiary or field photographs must not be reused in a way that misrepresents Lifeline, exploits depicted individuals, or breaches applicable rights, permissions or safeguarding requirements.

We aim to keep project, programme and impact information accurate and current, but humanitarian work can change quickly and published figures may be updated as field reports are reviewed. Website content is provided for general information and engagement purposes.
